To this day guitarists are still using this technique – as did The Beatles on \u003ci\u003eLet It Be\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first seven thousand pressings of this album bore the pseudonym Friendly Chap for Buddy Guy because it was thought he was under contract to another recording company. A British kid named Peter Brown worked at Delmark’s sister company, Jazz Record Mart, and attended the session. Rudi Bayer on double bass is the man of the low notes, in the right place at the right time. It's wonderful how this skill purrs out of the stereo speakers. And then there's that voice. Its expressiveness and charisma, its depth and inimitable warmth, born of passionate emotion, go unfiltered into the listener's heart. ‘The blues heals the blues,’ Willie Dixon once said. How true! And how impressively audible on this record. ‘Good Morning Blues’ and the country-esque ‘Make Me My Pallet On The Floor’ are further highlights of the A-side. The four songs were recorded in 2000. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe songs on side B were recorded in 1992. ‘I Had A Good Friend’ was composed by Jeanne Carroll. In this song, Carroll mourns the late blues pianist and singer Champion Jack Dupree. The melancholy and emotional intensity resonates in every single note. Bassist Klaus Schudy plays a beautiful bass solo and lets the melodies float away into distant soundscapes. Bernreuther lets wonderful blue notes bubble out of his Gibson Les Paul. Already in the early nineties, he laid a solid foundation for becoming one of the most recognised German blues guitarists today, almost 25 years later. This is followed by the Sonny Boy Williamson classic ‘Help Me’, which grooves so wonderfully that you can't sit still. The modulation range of Carroll's voice seems limitless. And then Carroll sings the ballad ‘I Wonder Why’, a composition by Bernreuther. The expressiveness of her vocals is enormous; it cannot be described, it must be heard. The B-side is rounded off by the two Carroll originals ‘Blues Breakdown’ and ‘Boogie Bound’. The two tracks leave nothing to be desired in terms of musical tension, even with minimal instrumentation. HARD ROAD BLUES was highly praised by fans and the press and sold very well. Unfortunately, the firebug has since struck at the German pressing plant - many masters and matrices were destroyed, including those of HARD ROAD BLUES. Re-pressing was therefore impossible.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\"\u003eDuring Corona 2020, however, I had a lot of time to look through my stock of recordings and I also found the HARD ROAD BLUES master tapes. This gave rise to the idea of reissuing this record. I contacted Christoph Stickel from CSMastering. Christoph had already done an excellent remastering of my \"Baby Wants To Boogie\" LP from 1987 and was therefore predestined to carry out this rather delicate work for HARD ROAD BLUES as well. He checked the tapes, which were already 27 years old, and then said he would have to \"bake\" them in the oven in order to be able to play them and start the remastering. She attended the show that night at the Troubadour and was so moved by Don’s song that she wrote a poem on a napkin that became the inspiration for her manager \/ songwriter \/producers to write the song “Killing Me Softly” which Lori recorded to complete her album and released as a single. Without “Empty Chairs” there would have been no “Killing Me Softly” and Lori has recorded it here on this new collection with a beautiful string arrangement she composed. No one had a better understanding of this melding of jazz polyrhythms with rock’s pulsating beat than Mouzon; with his furious propulsive style, he was welcome in both camps. Weather Report founders Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, and Miroslav Vitous brought him into the premier edition of the band. Mouzon and bassist Vitous made up the rhythm section. From Prague, Czech, Miroslavhad also played in Miles Davis’ band. As he had already shown with Weather Report, he demonstrates how well he could integrate acoustic bass into a jazz-rock concept. In duo with Mouzon, Vitous bows the deep tones on his composition The Light; he grabs the electric bass on the other compositions. Vitous as well as saxophonist Bob Malik and keyboard player Stan Goldberg were all part of the 1977 version of Mouzon’s touring band.  Pianist\/keyboarder Joachim Kühn and guitarist Philip Catherine joined the troup for the recording of In Search of a Dream. Two members of his old quintet, vibraphonist Wolfgang Schlüter and drummer Joe Nay were still in on it, and both had effortlessly mastered – as had Naura – the new rock and blues-oriented styles. With the addition of Eberhard Weber, a jazz-rock trendsetter had stepped into the band. “This musician from Swabia with the face of an old Botticelli angel,” as Naura described the electric bassist, had a substantial impact on the new quartet’s sound. The pieces on this MPS recording are all written by Naura. Born in 1934, Naura broke off his journalism studies in Berlin to become a musician. Vibraphonist Schlüter was with him when Naura formed a band in the 1950’s. This first band was heavily influenced by pianist George Shearing’s style. Naura and Schlüter have continued to play together on into the new century. The emotive jazz waltz \u003cem\u003eSpeak to Me\u003c\/em\u003e plays some magical slight-of-hand with the time, and \u003cem\u003eSong For a Child \u003c\/em\u003esings out as a soft-spoken ballad. \u003cem\u003eWhite Magic\u003c\/em\u003e powers through as a hard-swinging elixir for all that ails.
