A look at the manufacturing and installation of the capstan motor in the new Revox B77 MK III reel-to-reel tape recorder.

The B77 MK III is equipped with a three-motor direct-drive and servo-controlled transport system. Two reel motors bring the tape reels up to operating speed in the shortest possible time or brake them quickly, precisely and sensitively. The reel motors are particularly strong and robust. Thanks to increased starting voltage, they bring even heavy metal reels up to operating speed in a matter of seconds. The sophisticated technology of the regulated capstan motor compensates for even barely perceptible speed fluctuations. The tonewheel of the direct-drive capstan motor is considered a true masterpiece of precision engineering. Its concentricity tolerance is one thousandth of a millimeter.

Revox relies on the motor design that has proven itself for decades. The capstan shafts are produced in Germany. For the new production of the capstan shaft, it was necessary to use and purchase a very special type of steel. Swiss Steel produced five tons of this special steel for the manufacture of the high-precision capstan shaft, which requires 17 individual steps during production.

Highest precision for the best sound quality.
The Revox B77 Stereo Tape Recorder is the ideal playback device for any high-quality music system in the living room.
