#behindthescenes: Tape recorder production at the Revox factory in Villingen!

Insight into the production and installation of the capstan motor in the new Revox B77 MK III tape recorder.

The B77 MK III is equipped with a three-motor drive with direct drive and servo control. Two winding motors bring the tape reels up to operating speed in no time at all or brake them quickly, precisely, and sensitively. The winding motors are particularly powerful and robust. Thanks to increased starting voltage, they bring even heavy metal reels up to operating speed in seconds. The sophisticated technology of the regulated capstan motor compensates for even the slightest fluctuations in speed. The tone arm of the direct-drive capstan motor is considered a true masterpiece of precision engineering. Its tolerance is within one thousandth of a millimeter in terms of concentricity.

Revox relies on motor designs that have been tried and tested over decades. The capstan shafts are manufactured in Germany. For the new production of the capstan shaft, it was necessary to use and purchase a very special type of steel. Swiss Steel produced five tons of this special steel for the manufacture of the high-precision capstan shaft, which requires 17 individual steps in the manufacturing process alone.

Highest precision for the very best sound quality.
The Revox B77 stereo tape recorder is the ideal playback device for any high-quality music system in your living room.
