About Yello
In 1985, YELLO achieved worldwide breakthrough with their fourth longplayer "Stella," propelling Dieter Meier and Boris Blank to the top of the Swiss charts – the first domestic band to reach number 1 on the Swiss charts. In Germany, the album reached number 6 on the charts and was awarded a Golden Record.
While YELLO was previously considered a well-kept secret, the entire pop world now focused on the Zurich duo. With the mega-hit "Oh Yeah," YELLO left its mark on international pop culture for the first time: after the song, which was not originally planned as a single, entered the international charts, a real hype developed when "Oh Yeah" was featured in the soundtracks of the cinema blockbusters "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986) and "The Secret of My Success" (1987), delighting millions worldwide. To this day, the song is regularly heard in cinema and television productions like "The Simpsons" and countless commercials.
Mastering: Christoph Stickel
What does mastering for Revox mean to me?
Revox entrusts me with the original master tapes of outstanding, world-renowned recordings – musical and sonic gems. For me, this is a great responsibility, both technically and artistically. It's not just about making a clean copy, but about making the sonic and musical information contained in the original master as audible and experienceable as possible. This involves listening very carefully and understanding the musical flow.
To avoid making artificially spectacular changes, but to let the music sound as authentic and musical as possible. Even if optimizations are made at many small points, this is always done with the utmost respect for the recording – optimized for Revox's various media.
<< Mastering does not begin with processing a production, but with understanding its musical statement. Every recording tells a story. My job is not to rewrite it, but to make it as audible as it was intended to be told. >>
